We are pleased to announce that Stark Elementary School is starting a student mentoring program this year sponsored by the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Team, and the Mentor Program Coordinators. An information session was held this morning.

The objective is to improve student self esteem as well as academic performance through one-on-one interaction, encouraging student efforts to improve, and providing coaching in academic, social, emotional and behavior areas. The program will encourage all students to reach their highest potential through stimulating activities and nurturing care that will help students to become well-rounded and more productive.

School-trained mentors serve as listeners to designated students. They meet at least once a week for 30 minutes to provide students with friendship, encouragement and a positive role model.  They boost self-esteem, help the student broaden his/her vision of opportunities, and understand the value of education while gaining exposure to the world of work and community. The activities match the needs of the student with the skills of the mentor.

We are very thankful to our community volunteers. Their dedication and commitment will help our students become more successful in all endeavors!
