Into the Book is a multimedia package designed to improve elementary students' reading comprehension, as well as their ability to think and learn across the curriculum.
Based on current research, the project focuses on eight learning strategies: using prior knowledge, making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, summarizing, evaluating and synthesizing.
Into the Book includes:
  • a student website featuring interactive reading comprehension activities.
  • a teacher website featuring video clips, posters, teacher guides, lesson plans and a matrix linking each activity with Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts.
  • nine 15-minute classroom videos teaching children how to be strategic readers.
  • the Behind the Lesson video series including nine 10-minute professional development videos that model effective ways of teaching the learning strategies.

Book Adventure

How Book Adventure Works:

  1. Create an account with user name and password:  Register to sign up – select Student, Teacher, Parent
  2. Children search for books to read in the Book Finder
  3. They read books then go back online to take quizzes
  4. Once they successfully pass quizzes they earn points toward prizes, motivating them to read more
  5. Repeat steps 3 - 5
  6. Parents and teachers can track a student's progress via Reports

Guide to Presidential Elections

This website has an article explaining the ins and outs of presidential elections as well as a lot of useful links and resources. Caution is advised as this is not a "Kids" site, but a Michigan lawyer's website and may contain links to external sources that I have not viewed, nor recommend.

This website was sent to me by a retired IT director who asked for it to be published in our resources. The Fair Use link would be helpful for educators who would like to know more about this tough subject when it comes to reports and lessons in the classroom. Thanks, Tom!
